SUMMARY:Mushroom Growing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come join us as we inoculate hardwood logs with oyster mushroom spawn. This technique is used to produce various kinds of mushrooms commercially or at home. Participants can expect to learn the basics of how mushrooms grow and how to grow them in this way including drilling holes\, using specialized tools to fill these holes with sawdust spawn\, and sealing the holes with wax. We will also discuss other cultivation techniques used commercially as well as ones suited to the at-home hobbyist. It will be a fun way to learn a new skill\, make some friends\, and make use of the shadier parts of your yard or garden. Each participant will leave with their very own inoculated log. \nPre-registration required for each session. 10 registrants minimum required for program to run. School and college age students and their families attend. ASF celebrated the world-class learning and STEM career opportunities in metro Atlanta. The purpose is to keep Atlanta students engaged in STEM opportunities and careers in Atlanta without losing them to the West Coast and New York to pursue STEM careers. We’ll focus on the proper technique\, types of bait that can be used\, and what type of fish you can catch. \nThis class is designed for kids in grades K-5. Materials provided. Price is per child. Children must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone. Up to 3 kids per adult. \n10 registrants minimum required for program to run.
