Emily Zielke is the owner of Food and Flora Sovereignty, a small farm and plant nursery in Cherokee County, where she moved to with her teenage son in 2020. She is a lifelong grower and a 2007 graduate of a Natural Resources and Sustainable Development double Masters program through American University in Washington, DC and United Nations Universidad para la Paz in San Jose, Costa Rica. She has Permaculture Design certifications in both English and Spanish and refers back to permaculture principles on a near daily basis. She has taught urban agriculture to K-12 in public schools through the Edible Schoolyards Project in New Orleans and Chicago and was the owner of Yardbirds, an edible, useful and native plant landscaping company in New Orleans that primarily employed other single mothers. Emily is currently a vendor at Piedmont Park Green Market and other metro Atlanta markets. She would one day like to open a brick and mortar plant nursery and education center because she loves exchanging information and experiences with others.
