SUMMARY:Olmsted 200 - Piedmont Park Guided History Tour
DESCRIPTION:Olmsted 200 Celebration\nApril 26\, 2022\, marks the 200th birthday of Frederick Law Olmsted\, author\, journalist\, public official\, city planner and father of American landscape architecture. Olmsted and his successor firms designed thousands of landscape projects across the country\, transforming American life and culture. His vision of public parks for all people — and their ability to strengthen communities and promote public well-being — are now more important than ever. \nIn honor of and to celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted and his many achievements\, during March and April\, the Piedmont Park Conservancy’s Saturday history tours will highlight Olmsted’s legacy and his design for Piedmont Park which has been implemented over the years including the Park Drive Bridge of 1916. \nWe are a proud partner of the Olmsted 200 campaign\, a nationwide bicentennial birthday celebration of the democratic values and enduring influence of visionary American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. For more information about Olmsted and the campaign\, click here.  \nTour Information\nThe Piedmont Park History Walking Tours include an introduction to the park’s vibrant past and present. Walk with us and discover how Piedmont Park’s rich history is undeniably intertwined with the development of Atlanta. Together\, we’ll explore the fascinating historical and physical evolution of iconic Piedmont Park from forest to farm to fairgrounds for the Piedmont Exposition of 1887 and the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895\, to Atlanta’s premier urban greenspace. \n\nLed by docent volunteers\nFree and open to all ages\nPlease wear appropriate clothing for the weather as the tour is outside and involves walking\n10 am; 60 – 90 minutes in length\nMeet at the gate of 12th St. and Piedmont Ave NE. During Green Market\, there is a Piedmont Park Conservancy information table to meet at for tour guests.\n\nPlease register here. \n  \n  \n  \n
