Be part of a new Atlanta tradition.
The Piedmont Park Conservancy is proud to share that our dazzling new tradition has officially begun: a 50-foot Holiday Tree, menorah, and kinara are now shining bright in the Meadow—lighting up Atlanta all season long through January 4.
Throughout history, humanity has gathered to celebrate light in the midst of darkness. Long before organized religion, people looked to the return of the sun after the winter solstice as a sign of hope, renewal and the promise of spring. That same spirit lives on today, reminding us that even in challenging times we can come together as a community to honor what unites us: light, hope, and one another. Traditions like the Hanukkah menorah, the Christmas tree, and the Kwanzaa kinara are beautiful expressions of this shared human story, alongside countless other celebrations around the world. No matter your perspective, coming together to celebrate peace, unity and light is a meaningful way to reflect the best of our humanity.
These are symbols a symbol of hope, peace, and togetherness for our entire community. Join us as we light up the park with cheer and create magical moments for all ages.
💫 Give the gift of light: Donate $250+ to receive a commemorative ornament and help the Piedmont Park Conservancy keep the park shining all season long.
Why Light Up The Season?
For decades, the Rich’s store in downtown Atlanta hosted a beloved tree lighting that brought families together to experience the magic of the season. Sadly, this tradition no longer exists, leaving a void in the city’s holiday celebrations. We envision the 50-foot holiday tree menorah and kinara at Piedmont Park as a new home for this cherished tradition—one that will inspire new memories for future generations.
With over 6 million visitors annually, Piedmont Park is Atlanta’s front yard—a natural gathering place for joy and celebration. With nearby attractions like the Atlanta Botanical Garden and seasonal ice skating, the park is already a holiday hub. Now, imagine a sparkling 50-foot tree visible from the Atlanta Beltline an illuminated menorah and kinara for all to enjoy.
Atlanta’s new magical tradition will:
- Be hosted in the Meadow of Piedmont Park on November 23rd
- Include an inspiring illumination of a holiday tree, a menorah and a kinara
- Offer our community an opportunity for reflection, peace, unity and light
With the community’s support, we envision that Light Up The Season at Piedmont Park will grow in future years to include plans for seasonal markets and family activities
Honoring Traditions of Light and Unity
The holiday season is a time to celebrate the many ways light brings us together. At Piedmont Park, Light Up the Season will shine not only with a holiday tree, but also with a menorah and a kinara.
- The menorah represents the Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah—a celebration of resilience, hope, and miracles.
- The kinara represents Kwanzaa, honoring African heritage, unity, and the principles that strengthen community.
By including these displays alongside the tree, the Conservancy honors the diverse traditions that make Atlanta special. Together, these symbols remind us that while our customs may differ, the shared meaning of light—hope, togetherness, and joy, unites us all.
