Seeds for the Future:Urban Tree Canopy
In celebration of the 28th Annual Landmark Luncheon, Piedmont Park Conservancy, in partnership with the City of Atlanta, is proud to launch Seeds for the Future—a transformative multi-year campaign dedicated to the long-term care and expansion of Piedmont Park’s iconic tree canopy.
Guided by the community’s input and Piedmont Park’s new Comprehensive Plan—the first in over 25 years—this initiative responds to the resounding call for stronger stewardship of the Park’s trees and natural areas. Through proactive maintenance, strategic planting, and engaging educational programs, Seeds for the Future ensures our city’s most beloved greenspace thrives for generations to come.
Why This Matters
Piedmont Park’s thousands of trees are more than beautiful—they’re essential. Trees provide:
- Shade and relief from rising urban temperatures
- Cleaner air and water
- Habitat for native wildlife
- Emotional and mental wellness
- Carbon sequestration and stormwater management
Despite their importance, proactive tree care has long been underfunded due to resource constraints. That’s where Piedmont Park Conservancy steps in.
With the support of community partners and donors like you, the Conservancy will take a leading role in the proactive care, preservation, and expansion of the Park’s tree canopy, while continuing to collaborate with the City of Atlanta and Trees Atlanta for long-term success.
“A society grows great when old [persons] plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” This Greek proverb imparts the importance of giving towards the future, even one we may not see.
What the Campaign Supports
Tree Inventory & Assessment
Every tree matters. We’ll inventory and assess over 3,000 mature trees, identifying health needs and maintenance priorities.
Proactive Tree Care
Working with certified arborists, trees in critical need will receive treatment like observation mulching, pruning, pest control, root stimulation, bark washing, and more.
New Tree Planting
Hundreds of new trees will be planted in partnership with Trees Atlanta to ensure future growth and sustainability.
Public Tree Database + App
An interactive digital platform will provide education and allow visitors to “adopt” trees, track their health, and learn about their ecosystem benefits.
K-12 Curriculum + Summer Camp Integration
Kids and families will engage in hands-on learning, aligning with STEM/STEAM goals and supporting environmental literacy.
Volunteer Stewardship Program
Launching in 2026, this community-driven initiative will train volunteers to assist in mulching, planting, monitoring, and more.
