Piedmont Park is Atlanta’s largest public park. There are lots of events that happen within the Park, many times simultaneously. From sports to large scale festivals, Piedmont Park has many opportunities for you. The City of Atlanta facilitates organized play at many of the areas within the Park. Please check the permitted activity guidelines.
Permitted Activity Guidelines
- Active Oval Sports – Playing on the active oval, basketball court, and bocce courts, with the exception of Fridays, requires a permit. Please visit the ‘Sports’ page for more information. Fridays are set for leisure play.
- Fishing – Since Piedmont Park Conservancy renovated Clara Meer in 2002, fishing in Piedmont Park is even better. The new bridge unifies the two parts of the lake into a single body of water and an aeration system improved the water quality. There are three new fishing piers and the dock making it easier than ever to find the right spot. The lake is routinely stocked with fish, including Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Bream and Catfish, and attracts anglers of all ages. A valid State of Georgia fishing license is needed to fish in Piedmont Park.
- Large Gatherings, Festivals or Vending – If you’re interested in hosting an event on the grounds of Piedmont Park or desire to be vendor, you must apply to the City of Atlanta for a city permit. Visit our ‘City Permit’ page to learn more.
- Boating and Swimming in Lake Clara Meer is not permitted.
